Wild Animals Found in East Africa

East Africa boosts of a wide range of Fauna that blends well with the Flora of this region that lies on the equator.

Name Animal Description
Lion King of the jungle and a member of the Big Five. Live in prides (a handful of males and up to a dozen females and young), are genrally lazy & spend much of the time sleeping.
Leopard Have become very rare & when found are often on trees where they like to carry & store their prey. Leopards are also members of the Big Five.
Cheetah It's the fastest living land mammal.
Baboon Live in large troops with a strict social order, are playful but can be vicious if upset
Bushbuck Medium sized timid antelope with white spots and stripes
Buffalo Reputed to be the most dangerous animals as far as humans are concerned
Bushbaby Very agile small nocturnal animal with large eyes & ears and a long tail.
Dik-Dik One of the smallest antelopes, named after the noise they make when alarmed.
Elephant Largest and heaviest living land mammal, live in families and gather in herds for migration. Elephants have powerful trunk and need much food so can be destructive to shrubs and trees.
Thompson's Gazelle Are slightly smaller and have a distinctive coat with a black band separating their brown top from the white belly.
