DAY 1 ACTIVITIES
Depart from Nairobi at 0700Hrs for Castle Lodge on the slopes of Mt. Kenya through Sagana and off Kutus Kianyaga road, it is a two and half hours driver from Nairobi. Once there, you will be 2,081 metres above sea level.
Arrive at Castle Lodge at 1000Hrs and find a steaming mug of tea waiting and a charming guide to walk you through the castle forest lodge which was built by British originally as a retreat for royalty during the late twenties.
After tea and warm familiarization of the lodge, an early afternoon nature walk in the woods (Guided of course) and to the twin falls will be ideal which will pave way for a late lunch at the Main House Restaurant, OR you can opt to horse ride in the woods.
Depending on the guests, the evening can be spent fishing as the fish come to the surface of the crystal clear waters to enjoy the last rays of the day’s sun, OR go for matchless bird species watching.
Dinner at the Restaurant and later retire to bed. Once in your room, (if you are not an early sleeper) you will see the elephants coming to browse around your room! Caution, don’t disturb them, they are friendly, only if you are not visible to them, remain in the room and enjoy seeing the biggest mammal on earth.
DAY 2 ACTIVITIES
Wake up early (0600Hrs) for a glimpse of the elephants as they retreat to their hide out in the densely forested areas surrounding the castle. You will also have a chance to see the employees of the castle lodge squeezing the teats of the cows to remove milk which is almost ‘frozen’! The elephants at night are harmless to the cows and the latter is hardly scared of the former.
Breakfast at the restaurant and later proceed to the freezing river for a mid-morning tropical fishing experience.
Back to the castle for lunch and checking out at 1400Hrs.
